Shaping up to be a nice mild weekend in Toronto and the GTA. But Monday will look a lot different.
Freezing rain is forecast to hit in the afternoon just as the commute home for thousands begins.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for the freezing rain, which could be more severe in areas north of the city, but may still significantly impact the drive home from Toronto.
Arnold Ashton of Environment Canada adds the commute home could be "a little dicy and icy. Monday afternoon probably is when a fair bit of the freezing rain will be coming in."
Accoring to Ashton, beyond the commute, some areas away from Toronto may experience long spells of the freezing rain.
"I would say it would likely extend into the evening north of the city, downtown it will probably change to rain. It's a question of timing. That spells the diffference between slippery and wet roads."
