A very dangerous and serious situation was avoided after a train derailed in Scarborough early Sunday morning.
The CN freight train lost a total of 3 cars as it crossed a level crossing off Kennedy Road and Eglinton just before 3 a.m.
Some of the cars were carrying hazardous materials. A Hazmat team was brought in, but no leaks were found.
Toronto Police Const. Dave Hopkinson confirmed to NEWSTALK1010 Sunday morning they set up perimeters around the area and some evacuations were prepped but not carried out, before the all clear was given.
"We had some concerns because some of the train cars contained hazardous chemicals. We wanted to make sure there were no spills or danger to the public."
The derailed freight cars ended up on the road, but eventually were removed.
The cause of the derailment is unclear at this time, but the Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified of the incident.
