A shocking night for students and families at a public library in North York tonight, after a shooting victim rushed in for help.
Officers were called to York Woods Library near Finch Avenue and Tobermory Drive - that's east of Jane - just after 7 p.m. tonight.
When they arrived, they found a man believed to be in his 20's, suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a trauma centre by emergency run.
The library was put on lockdown for at least an hour. The canine unit was brought in. Parents waiting for their children outside were quite anxious.
These witnesses spoke to our sister station CP24 about their nerve-wracking experience:
"I was a little worried - scary to think that you're so close to something like that. My car's in this parking lot, so I could have been out there when that was happening. So, it is a little scary for that."
"An announcement came on and they said that everyone should evacuate because it's a lockdown, lockdown, so we quickly rushed downstairs and then they took us to one main room that everyone should be in."
Police Constable Allyson Douglas-Cook telling Newstalk 1010 that no one else was hurt.
"I don't know exactly how many people were in the library. There were of course people in attendance, and I know that the units had expressed that there were parents on the outside, who were expressing concerns."
"I can confirm there was the one adult male victim. At this point no one else within the library was hurt."
The shooting reportedly happened in the parking lot - on the west side of the building.
Police tell Newstalk 1010 that three males were seen fleeing the area.
"They're believed to be the possible suspects, so we're of course appealing to the public. Anyone who may have seen these three individuals, or who may have any more details, please call police."
