Funeral arrangements for former Ontario Liberal Health Minister David Caplan have been announced.
The service will take place at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning at the Holy Blossom Temple near Bathurst and Eglinton.
Instead of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity and the Special Olympics Ontario.
A statement released on behalf of his wife Leigh and sons Benjamin and Jacob, was issued earlier today. In says, in part: "We are deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. He was 54 and left us much too soon."
The family says Caplan died following a tragic accident, involving a fire, at his home on Wednesday.
An autopsy was conducted Friday, but the results have not yet been released.
Caplan represented the Toronto riding of Don Valley East.
He was first elected in 1997 and served until 2011, when he and several other prominent Liberals chose not to run for re-election.
He was forced out as health minister in 2009 over the eHealth scandal in which millions of dollars went to consultants with government ties, and over expense account abuses.
Many felt Caplan had been treated unfairly, particularly since most of the abuses at the agency took place under his predecessor.
