The Gardiner will once again be closed this weekend for fall maintenance.
The full length of the expressway will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, October 21 to 5 a.m. on Monday, October 24.
Kyp Perikleous is the city's Director of Transportation Services. He says if the work is done ahead of schedule, then they'll reopen the highway earlier.
The maintenance will include, among other things, resurfacing, crack repair, inspection of bridges and clearing catch basins.
The city is telling drivers to use alternate routes such as Lake Shore Boulevard, the Queensway, King Street, Bloor Street and Evans Avenue. Perikleous says they'll adjust traffic-signal timing on those routes to improve traffic flow.
He says this looks like the best weekend to do the work because it seems to be the lightest weekend in terms of major events.
There will be one notable change once the work is done. The speed limit of the Gardiner will be increased between the DVP and Jameson from 70 km/hr to 90 km/hr.
