Altogether, it's a 12-cent hike over just three days.
GasBuddy.com's Dan McTeague confirmed to NEWSTALK1010 Saturday that prices were set for another jump immediately after the clock strikes midnight Sunday morning.
Average prices in the GTA, which sat at about 106.9 cents a litre Saturday afternoon, will move to 109.9 cents according to McTeague.
"This price increase will stay around at least until Wednesday," he said. "There's a government holiday in the United States on Monday which means the markets may not be open, so no relief until at least Thursday."
McTeague cites better market performance as one of the reasons for pricier oil and gas, which stems from positive trade talks between the U.S. and China. He also says many countries have been cutting down on oil production, including those in OPEC, Venezuela and here at home in Canada.
"We're also looking at what's called a shoulder season for refineries. They're now going into seasonal maintenance, getting ready for spring and summer demand," he said. "That means less production."
Despite the nine-cent hike as of Saturday afternoon, several big-box retailers and independent stations were still selling gas for under a dollar a litre. McTeague says independents may offset the costs by selling other products in their stores, while big-box stores such as Costco may be getting good deals from refineries.
McTeague says with the federal government introducing a five cent per litre carbon tax as of April 1 and more expensive spring and summer gasoline blends on the way, drivers should prepare to pay at least $1.30 per litre by summer 2019.
