The founder of the Giller prize has passed away.
Jack Rabinovitch, who named the prestigious literary award given to a Canadian author of a novel or short story collection published in English, after his late wife Doris, died at Sunnybrook Hospital Sunday as a result of injuries suffered after a fall in his home a few days ago. He was 87. Rabinovitch was surrounded by family extended family and friends at the time of his passing.
A native of Montreal, Rabinovitch graduated from Baron Byng high school and Mcgill University becoming a successful businessman and developer across North America.
A philanthropist, Rabinovitch wa a key volunteer advisor to the building of the new Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.
Rabinovitch was a proud recipient of the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario. Rabinovitch is survived by his partner Judy Clarke, 3 daughters and 3 grand children.
