Toronto City Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti is putting the brakes on his quest to seek a seat at Queen's Park.
It was almost two weeks ago he announced he would pursue the PC nomination for Brampton-Centre with the support of leader Doug Ford.
At 11:45 a.m. today Mammoliti was asked by NEWSTALK 1010 reporter Siobhan Morris about his provincial run. He mentioned there were a lot of people urging him to stay at City Hall but that Ford was very clear about wanting him at Queen's Park, that he agreed, and is running for the nomination. He was then asked point blank if there was any chance he wouldn't follow through and replied "I've committed to do it, and I'm going to do it."
Just after 7 p.m. he announced he will no longer chase the nomination. "My constituents feel very clear about their feelings to me and that is that they'd like me to stay and fight at City hall to ensure the municipal government has a voice, a very clear voice."
NEWSTALK 1010 reached out for reaction from PC leader Doug Ford but was told he is unavailable.
