A GO bus driver has been charged with impaired driving after a supervisor conducting a routine check became suspicious and called the police.
It happened at the Square One depot in Mississuaga Friday night.
Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins said a supervisor was conducting a routine check and became very concerned after seeing the driver's behaviour. The supervisor called police.
Officers took the driver to a police station to give him a blood test. He has been charged with driving with a blood alcohol concentration in excess of 80 milligrams.
Metrolinx says the driver has been relieved of his duties pending an internal review.
Anne Marie Aikins told CP24 the 37-year-old driver from Toronto was finishing his shift when the supervisor noticed his behaviour.
She said it is too early to say whether he had been drinking during the shift or before, but the investigation is underway.
This is the first time that a GO Transit operator has been charged with impaired driving, according to Aikins.
The driver is expected to appear in court on April 25.
