Peel Regional Police have charged a gymnastics coach with the alleged sexual abuse of a young pupil.
Police say that earlier this year, a 15-year-old girl approached them and detailed multiple incidents of alleged abuse over a four-year period.
28-year-old Scott McFarlane is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, child luring, and indecent exposure to someone under 16 and making sexually explicit material to someone under 16.
Police say McFarlane as a gymnastics coach not only in Peel Region but also in Oakville, Ottawa and Western Canada.
They believe there may be more victims.
A notice on Gymnastics Ontario's website dated December 22, 2017 said McFarlane had been suspended for three months for a period ending January 26 under its discipline, complaints and harassment policy.
A second post on the site dated January 26 says McFarlane's suspension is indefinite.
"Gymnastics Ontario has policies that are in place for the screening of employees, coaches, judges, support staff and volunteers that travel and work with the athletes in our sport," the site reads. "We continue to review and update our policies and procedures to ensure that they meet our commitment to safe sport and minimize risks to our participants."
