Two Toronto Police officers caught on video mocking a woman with Down Syndrome intend to plead guilty at a disciplinary hearing next month.
It was in November of 2016 the two officers had pulled over Francie Munoz's mother, Pamela, for allegedly running a red light. It was while they were writing up the ticket in the police cruiser they were caught on dash cam laughing at her daughter, using words "disfigured," "artistic," and half a woman.
Pamela was preparing to fight the ticket months later and was given the video as part of evidence.
Cst. Sasa Sljivo is charged with misconduct related to the language used in the footage; Cst. Matthew Saris is charged with misconduct for failing to report the incident.
The Munoz family hasn't decided what sentencing they will request after the officers plead guilty on November 28.
They have also filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal, seeking $30,000 in damages and legal expenses.
