A bright idea is not one to go unnoticed and Hamilton has taken inspiration from Toronto in the form of a sign.
Councillors have voted in favour of a motion to add a giant sign that looks very similar to the faomous Toronto letters at Nathan Phillips Square outside their City Hall.
Each letter will be able to display a variety of colours, but be smaller than the Toronto sign standing at 2.28 metres-high rather than the 3 metre sign in Toronto.
A staff report conceded the sign was "similar" to the Toronto one, but notes that "cities and regions around the world have preceded the City of Toronto in erecting large signs."
The report says "Amsterdam’s signs are among the best known. Others are found in, Nice, LAX, Hollywood and Brisbane to name other well-known examples."
The costing of installing the sign will be paid for by the proceeds of a private donation campaign led by the CEO of Carmen's Group and the president of Powergroup Communications.
The Hamilton sign is expected to grace the fron of City Hall by the end of the year.
