Toronto is now officially one year in to the King Street pilot project and city data suggests it has done what it was meant to do.
One year ago today, cars were first forced to turn right at every intersection on King between Jarvis and Bathurst, in order to clear the way for street cars.
Data from the city shows average ridership on the route is up 11 percent since before the pilot. There are roughly 80,000 boardings each day.
The number of cyclists in the area has increased more than four-fold.
Still, not everyone deems the pilot a success. Some business owners have claimed its keeping customers away.
The city data suggests spending in the area was up by about 0.3 per cent in the first six months of the project.
Average annual growth in the surrounding area was 5.7 per cent.
