Toronto Police have arrested and charged a 49-year-old harm reduction worker after a woman was allegedly assaulted multiple times and injected with an unknown substance.
The incidents allegedly took place between October 30 and December 6 of this year in the Parliament and Oak Street area of Regent Park.
Investigators say Marty Behim - who also goes by the name Marty MacKay or Marty Behm - met with a 65-year-old woman inside a residence and allegedly assaulted her on numerous occasions.
During at least one of those meetings, he injected her with an unknown substance while she was asleep.
"What's disturbing and why we are putting out this information is that Marty Behim is supposed to be a harm reduction worker, working for the South Riverdale Community Health Centre," Constable David Hopkinson told NEWSTALK1010. "Now he has access to people who are vulnerable, some of whom are dependent on drug treatment."
Police began their investigation on December 8 and arrested Behim the same day.
He is charged with two counts of assault, assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance, uttering threats and forcible confinement.
As to whether there are any other victims, Hopkinson says he's not aware of that at the current time, but "of course we have to try and cover all investigative avenues."
Anyone with more information on the case is asked to come forward.
