We’re nearing the home stretch of the provincial elections and NDP leader Andrea Horwath is choosing to defend one of her candidates over controversial comments made about Remembrance Day and wearing a poppy.
It’s come to light that Mississauga-Centre candidate, Laura Kaminker, posted to social media that in her opinion wearing a poppy is a “ritual of war glorification.”
Horwath said over the weekend it’s a matter of “free speech.”
Yet, she was one of the chorus of voices urging PC leader Doug Ford to drop Tanya Granic Allen for her controversial comments.
“We’re talking about a persons choice as to whether or not to wear a poppy, whether or not to attend Remembrance Day ceremonies. These are things that, I think, we value as Canadians, people’s rights to their opinions of these things,” defends Horwath.
Horwath wants to be on the record as saying how important Remembrance Day is to her and how much she values those who have served and are serving our country.
