Flu season is just around the corner and already there are signs things could become difficult for Ontario hospitals.
The Ontario Hospital Association says overcrowding in June hit a record high this year.
The average wait to be admitted to hospital from an emergency room was 16 hours, the worst June on record since 2008 when the province first began collecting data.
All the while, more than 4,500 patients were still in hospital, instead of in long term care facilities.
OHA President Anthony Dale tells the Toronto Star that some hospitals are struggling to make ends meet, trying to meet the demand with limited resources.
The Ford government has promised to create more long-term care beds but it could be years before they open.
Dale is calling for bridge strategy in the meantime.
