According to CTV News, the province is expected to approve a modified version of Stage 2 for Toronto, Ottawa and Peel Region that will restrict indoor dining and close gyms for 28 days.
Schools and daycares are expected to remain open, and if approved today, the new restrictions would come into place Saturday.
CTV News is also reporting that the closure of casinos and indoor sporting games is being considered.
The cabinet meeting began at 11:00 a.m.
Several announcements will be coming today. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and federal health officials will be holding a noon news conference. Provincial health officials including the province's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams will be holding a news conference at 1:00 p.m. Premier Doug Ford is expected to speak at 2:30 p.m.
Reports indicate Toronto Mayor John Tory and Chief Medical Officer of Health for the city, Dr. Eileen de Villa, will speak at 3:30 p.m.
