A stretch of Hwy 404 is being widened to accommodate new high occupancy vehicle lanes.
One HOV lane will be added in each direction between Hwy 407 and Stouffville Rd, expanding the highway from six lanes to eight for a little more than 10 km.
The project will also see a 171-spot carpool lot added at Major Mackenzie Dr in Vaughan, repairs to two Hwy 7 overpasses, replacement of the Rouge River overpass, and widening of the 16th Ave overpass.
The federal government is chipping in $46-million with the province picking up the rest of the tab, though it is not clear how much that is.
The province plans to ask for bids on construction of the commuter lot in early spring 2017 with on-site work starting in late spring or early summer.
The series of projects is not expected to be totally completed until 2021.
