Innisfil has become the first town in Canada to partner up with Uber to deliver public transit.
A six-month long pilot project was launched Monday.
Riders will pay $3 to $5 for certain destinations like the Barrie South GO station, and the town will pay the rest.
Innisfil mayor Gord Wauchope says it makes sense financially - cheaper than adding bus routes, and it services more people.
They have budgeted $175,000 for the pilot project, but they have yet to see how long that money will last.
"I'm hoping, keeping my fingers crossed that it will last up until the end of the year," Wauchope says.
It all depends on how many people use it, where they go, and whether they travel in pairs or groups. Each rider will have to pay the fare, like boarding a bus.
"We're hoping that people use it in twos and threes," Wauchope says. "It's not going to eat up the money that quickly."
Wauchope says he thinks big cities can learn from this as well, thinking outside the box when it comes to transit.
