Peel Police were involved in a shooting in Mississauga Tuesday night.
According to Const. Sarah Patten, speaking to our media partner CP24, officers were investigating a vehicle for possible drug activity near a townhouse complex on Southampton Drive, just south of Eglinton Avenue, west of Winston Churchill Blvd at around 7:30 p.m.
That's when an altercation occurred between the driver of a vehicle and officers.
"When officers went to approach the vehicle, the vehicle drove at them, so the officer fired several shots at the driver of the vehicle, striking the driver."
Patten added the driver, the lone occupant of the car, slammed into a garage in the townhouse complex and was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Patten also confirmed it doesn't appear the suspect was known to police.
"I'm not aware of any history for the person, however they were investigating the vehicle for drug related activity.
It's also not clear if the victim was a resident of the complex.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit(SIU) was notified of the interaction, and late Tuesday night invoked their mandate to take carriage of the investigation.
