With the passing of Bill 5, the Better Local Government Act, eligible Torontonians who still want to run for council can start registering on Monday.
Nominations open at 8:30 Monday morning, and will remain open until September 14 at 2 p.m..
In order to qualify to run for council, you have to be 18 years old, a Canadian Citizen and live or own property in Toronto. In addition, candidates must not be prohibited from holding public office.
Candidates also must secure the signatures of 25 eligible voters on their nomination forms and pay a registration free of $100.
For those who already registered prior to July 27 - under the former 47 ward system - candidates will either need to notify the city clerk of their intentions to continue running, or they will need to submit a change of ward notification form if they're looking to switch to another ward.
Any current candidates who do not notify the city clerk of the intention to continue running will be withdrawn from the race, and the candidates name will be taken off the ballot
