If you're one of the thousands who have an account with 407 ETR, you could be getting a letter in the mail from the company over the next few days.
The company confirmed late Wednesday afternoon that as many as 60,000 customers may have had their account name, mailing address, and phone numbers comprimised in the past 12 months.
But Kevin Sack, Vice President marketing and communications with 407 ETR, told Newstalk 1010 late Wednesday afternoon, the breach did not include personal banking info or vehicle details.
"There is no personal banking, trip history or licensing information."
Sack confirm the company was alerted to the problem a week ago, when a customer walked into the 407 ETR offices concerned their personal information had been compromised.
" We took steps to verify the information that was presented to us and found enough reason to believe the names and addresses. And we had enough confidence in what the person gave us to go forward and put out a statement."
The statement claims as many as 60,000 407 ETR customers may have been impacted by the breach that is being referred to as an "internal theft of customer data."
Sack adds they have already contacted several authorities and the company is taking the matter "very seriously as the privacy and protection of our customers’ information is of the utmost importance."
Local police, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) have all been notified.
