Both the Toronto Police and Ontario Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the death of David Caplan, a former Ontario Health Minister.
Emergency responders were called to his North York home on Wednesday evening. He had reportedly suffered severe injuries and there had been a fire.
A sudden death investigation is routine and an autopsy is planned for today to determine the cause of death. So far, there is nothing to suggest it's suspicious.
Toronto Fire and Police are saying very little about the circumstances that led to the 9-1-1 call, how big the fire was, where it was located in Caplan's home, how it may have started.
The 54-year-old was running for the federal Liberal nomination in Don Valley York.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
