It's the first day of Winter and we are beginning the season with some snow!
Toronto and the GTA is under a special weather statement.
Snow should begin after 4 p.m. "That snow will continue overnight. We're looking at about 5-10 cms, generally, across the GTA by Friday morning but those amounts could be slightly higher around the west end of the GTA, Mississauga, Oakville, down through the Hamilton area, as an east wind off Lake Ontario, perhaps, adds another few centimetres to that amount by Friday morning," describes Environment Canada's Geoff Coulson.
The flakes are expected to continue off and on during the day with another 4-5 cms possible with the risk of freezing drizzle.
"The afternoon drive could be impacted, especially towards the end of the commute when we could have maybe a centimetre on the ground. But the bigger impacts will be Friday morning for the drive in and those that may be heading off early for travel for Christmas. That travel could be slower than normal," he adds.
Saturday should reach a high of plus one.
Flurries are possible on Christmas Eve with a high of minus 2.
Christmas Day will be chilly with a high of minus 5.
