The Toronto Blue Jays have found their man.
Charlie Montoyo has been named the manager of the Jays, replacing the departing John Gibbons.
Montoyo was most recently with the Tampa Bay Rays, as their bench boss.
Before that, he toiled in the minor leagues for 18 years, becomming the winningest manager in the history of the Durham Bulls, in 2014.
Since promotion to the Majors, Montoyo has served as the third base coach and then bench coach for the Rays.
The Jays say he's signed a three-year contract with the team, with a one-year option that takes the deal through 2022.
In a release, Montoyo says "Managing a team that represents an entire country is incredibly special. My family and I look forward to working towards theultimate goal of winning a championship for this city."
The Puerto Rico native played four Major League games in 1993 with the Montreal Expos. He was drafted in the 6th round of the 1987 Amateur Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
