A superior court judge has reinstated Toronto City Councillor, Jim Karygiannis.
The representative for Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt was removed from office earlier this week, because of campaign spending infractions in 2018.
He was removed based on the rules as laid out in the Municipal Elections Act.
Karygiannis spoke to our media partner CP24 shortly after the announcement was made Monday evening, admitting he hasn't seen the details of the ruling, but is happy to be back at work.
"I have not read the ruling. I want to thank all the support I received from all my constituents. I'm looking to return back to work to continue the work that I've been doing with my residents and my constituents."
At the heart of the Karygiannis removal was allegeded over spending by his office, that the councillor maintained was simply a clerical error by the city clerk.
But even after regaining his vacated seat at City Hall, the 5-year councillor refused to point fingers over his dismissal.
"You know what I'm not going to hindsight 20/20 and I'm not going to say anymore at this time."
For now Karygiannis will await a call to find out when exactly he'll be able to walk back into council on Tuesday.
In a statement, the city said it is expecting Karygiannis to be at tomorrow’s city council meeting in light of the decision.
“Based on today’s ruling, arrangements are being made to allow Mr. Karygiannis to attend city council’s regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow Nov. 26, as the councillor for Ward 22,” the statement read.
