A veteran OPP traffic officer says a recent incident of stunt driving in Mississauga is one of the most serious he's ever seen.
"This is just ridiculous speed," said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the incident late Monday night, in which a teenager was clocked going 246 km/hr on Highway 403.
"We don't see a lot of speeds much faster than that."
Schmidt said the teenager was driving a friend's Audi and officers just happened to be stationed in the area doing speed enforcement.
The teen was charged with stunt driving, given the standard seven-day license suspension and the vehicle was impounded.
Schmidt said while there wasn't much traffic on the roadway at the time, things could've been easily become deadly.
"It's the middle of February right now, you get some water, melting snow, a car that cuts in front of you and this is going to end very badly," he said. "That kind of speed on a public highway is completely ludicrous."
The penalties for stunt driving in Ontario can include up to six months in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
