Casino Rama announced Thursday it was hit by a cyberattack in which sensitive information was stolen.
The casino warned its customers, vendors as well as both current and former staff to keep an eye on their bank accounts, credit cards and other financial information.
It said the stolen data appeared to include internal financial and security-incident reports, emails, payroll data, client information, social insurance numbers, and dates of birth.
The lawyers say the class-action suit will be commenced on behalf of employees, customers and vendors of the Casino Rama Resort whose confidential information was compromised.
Ted Charney with Charney lawyers was on The Motts show on Newstalk 1010 Saturday and said this cyber attack is different than we usually see in Toronto. He compared it to the Ashley Madison hack.
"The cyber attack here isn't directed towards stealing financial information and selling it on the dark net, it's personal." Charney said.
Charney has heard from employees who work in the security department saying they would tell Casino Rama the security needed improving, one he quoted as saying "even a 15-year-old could break into their security."
More information and a registration system can be found at CasinoRamaclassaction.com.
The statement of claim will be filed in Superior Court on November 14, 206.
