York Regional Police have a reminder for you about your phone: don't let your kid play with it and, "lock it before you pocket it."
Just this year, they say they've received more than 15,000 unintentional calls to 9-1-1.
"These calls can often take up a lot of time for a call taker...tying them up when other people could be calling in a real emergency," says Constable Andy Pattenden.
He says the biggest issue is young children playing with phones which, even without a SIM card, are capable of dialling 9-1-1.
They've released audio of one of those calls.
Pocket dials are also a common issue.
Police say someone who places an unintentional 9-1-1 call should stay on the line and let the emergency operator know.
