A 26-year-old man from Whitby is in custody after leading police on a wild chase on the 401 westbound on Thursday afternoon.
It all started around 1 o'clock when provincial police got reports of a stolen pickup. When officers caught up with the truck, they tried to use their cruisers to block the driver in.
That didn't work.
The stolen truck rammed the back of one of the police cars, sending it into a construction crash truck that was parked on the side of the road.
From there, the pickup continued on, getting off the highway at Stevenson Road. A short time later, the driver lost control, crashing into two other vehciles in the parking lot.
The driver tried to run, but was rounded up by officers with Durham Regional Police.
One officer was sent to hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect is being held by police, but it's unclear what charges will be laid.
The westbound side of the 401 has been closed between Stevenson and Harmony Roads as a result of the incident.
It's expected to reopen by 6pm.
