Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Sunday night into Monday morning saying the remnants of Tropical storm Nate are likely to affect southern Ontario with some appreciable rain.
Heavy rainfall is expected for Hamilton, Niagara, Halton Hills, Burlington, Oakville, Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto Richmond Hill, Markham, Vaughan, Pickering, Oshawa and souther Durham Region.
The weather agency's statement say, "Hurricane Nate came ashore last night in southern Mississipi. The hurricane is now weakening rapidly and travelling north to northeastwards. It is forecast to track just south of the Great Lakes tonight into Monday. However, the rain associated with this weakening system is likely to graze portions of the lower Great Lakes with several hours of rain. It should begin tonight for regions north of Lake Erie and north of Lake Ontario towards dawn or early Monday morning."
20 to 30 millimetres are expected, but some areas could see as much as 40. Rainfall warnings could be put in place if heavier rainfall moves in.
The rain is expected to end on Monday.
