If you see this woman crying over a lottery ticket, think twice before you pony up any dough to her.
Toronto Police say September 29, 2016 a 54-year-old man was shopping in the Lawrence Avenue and Markham Road area when he saw a woman crying and asking for help. She stated she had a winning $2 million lorry ticket, but could not claim it because she is an illegal immigrant. It was at this time another man, believed to be her accomplice, came up offering help and pretending not to know her.
The woman told the men she would split the winnings with them and showed them the fraudulent ticket. Both men went to a lottery kiosk to prin off the winning numbers, which matched the fraudulent ticket. The woman told the men she wanted $10,000 up front. They went to a bank and the 54-year-old handed over his money to her, the other man said he was going to photocopy the ticket and left.
Just then the woman apparently fell ill and asked the 54-year-old to buy her some medication to settle her stomach. When he got back she and the other man were nowhere to be found.
Security camera images of the woman and her accomplice have been released.
