Just because WestJet has announced a low cost carrier, that doesn't mean you're going to find screaming deals on flights.
Sure, those deals will be out there, but they come with a catch.
You'll be fine, if you don't want anything to drink, eat or have anything to take with you.
Outside of the seat, it's going to cost you.
"It can easily be 25$ to bring your carry on bag on the airplane, and it has certain dimensions that make it a pretty small bag in the first place. And if it looks like it's heavy, they weigh it because there will be a limit on that too." says Calgary based Airline Consultant Rick Erickson.
He says you're not getting many perks on those flights.
"Charging for water could be a stretch, but boy, free peanuts and soft drinks on WestJet and Air Canada flights, forget that business, they'll be costing in the future."
When it comes to those $99 seat sales, he says there are about four seats on a given flight at that price, but it doesn't matter because they are hooking you in. So when you see the cheap flights are sold out, you'll probably pay a little more for the next available seat.
And all that nickle and diming, is something you should expect.
"Yes, they've hooked you, you bought your ticket, now how can they add additional fees so they can actually make money on the flight?" say Erickson.
There's nothing hidden when it comes to this stuff, but Erickson stresses to read the fine print when you book your flight. In some cases, if you're flying with your family, it might be cheaper in the long run to just pay up front and fly regular WestJet or Air Canada.
