Imagine having to deal with violence in your job on a weekly, even daily basis.
A new poll suggests that's the reality for many long term care workers in this province.
The poll, conducted for the Canadian Union of Public Employees and detailed in the Toronto Star, found 80 percent of the 1,000 workers surveyed say they experience violence on the job.
Almost half say they deal with pushing or hitting on a daily or weekly basis.
It appears it's not just physical abuse. 63 percent said they'd faced sexual harassment at least once. 43 percent said they'd experienced sexual assault.
Over half said they'd never filed a formal report.
CUPE 3014 President Sue Moore tells the Star that workers are often given little preparation for violence in their workplace and it's often treated as "part of the job."
