It appears to be a bank robbery gone wrong.
A male suspect, believed to be a teenager under 18 years of age, is in hospital in stable condition, after he was involved in an interaction with Peel Regional Police Tuesday afternoon, suffering a gunshot wound.
The police interaction prompted the SIU, Ontario's Special Investigations Unit, to respond to the shooting and assume carriage of the investigation.
According to SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon, Peel Police were already in the area tending to another call, when they were alerted by a civilian about a possible robbery in progress at a nearby plaza.
"Soon after officers entered the bank, there was an interaction with a male person. One officer discharged his firearm and the male was struck. He was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery. He's there in stable condition."
The interaction occurred inside an HSBC branch at the Mississauga Chinese Centre, located at 888 Dundas Street East, near Cawthra Road, at around 3:50 p.m.

Hudon confirms there were 10 employees in the branch at the time of the shooting and an unspecified number of customers, but no one was injured.
But it is far to early into the investigation to determine why and how the interaction occurred.
"Understanding exactly what transpired between police and the man is what the SIU is investigating."
The SIU were also able to retrieve the suspect's weapon, inspect it and eventually turned it back over to Peel Police.
Six SIU investigators and two Forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
