A man and woman are facing charges after allegedly roughing up a Toronto taxi driver, stealing his cab and crashing it.
The orange and turquoise Beck taxi was discovered smashed into a light standard near Lake Shore Blvd and Parkside Dr at about 2 a.m. Thursday.
Toronto Police constable David Hopkinson says the driver was hit in the head, apparently by the male suspect, and was left bleeding as the man and woman took off in his car. They made it about 3 km down the road before crashing and making a run for it. But police caught up with the suspects and they were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Hopkinson could not say which of the suspects had been at the wheel, only that that person would be charged with impaired driving in addition to charges related to the attack and theft.
Hopkinson did not know if the pair had called a cab, flagged one down or how else they might have encountered the cabbie.
