Put yourself in the shoes of the parents at this school in East Gwillimbury.
Their kindergarten kids were out on recess on Wednesday, when a man showed up, jumped the fence and started swinging a weapon at them.
According to York Regional Police, that weapon was a curtain rod.
The 30-year-old man was arrested after being held by a volunteer parent lunch monitor, and teachers, until police arrived.
A 5-year-old boy was sent to hospital, but was released at around 5:30 Wednesday evening. He returned to school on Thursday.
"What is unique about this case, is that we do know this 30-year-old man does suffer from cognitive impairment, so as to why he did this, we may never know," says Sgt Andy Pattenden.
He's now been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and common nuisance - endanger life. He's been held in custody.
As far as safety at the Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Elementary School goes, Pattenden says they have been there for students.
"We had youth education officers at the school, dealing with any sort of requirements that are there at the school," says Pattenden.
Police say the man lives in a house down the street from the school, and reportedly left the house alone, armed with the curtain rod. For some reason he jumped the fence and allegedly started attacking.
