A 44-year-old Mississauga man is under arrest following an investigation into a historical sexual assault.
Peel Regional Police say the victim - a woman in her 30's - came forward on Friday, saying the incidents in question happened in the summer of 1998.
"She was a student at a martial arts centre in the Park Royal area of Mississauga, and during that time she was sexually assaulted by a karate instructor on three separate occasions," Cst. Sarah Patten told NEWSTALK1010 Saturday afternoon.
Officers acted quickly and made an arrest at 8 p.m. Friday, taking Amanullah Yousufy into custody. He has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference, and was scheduled to make a court appearance on Saturday.
Police are unsure at this point if there are any other victims. However, "we are appealing to anyone with any information," Cst. Patten said.
"Anyone, any witnesses, anyone with any information [should] contact our special victims unit."
Peel's special victims unit can be reached at 905-453-2121, ext. 3460. Those who wish to remain anonymous are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
As of Saturday afternoon, no photo had been released.
