A man behind one of Toronto's more shocking shootings has been sentenced to over a decade in jail.
T'Quan Robertson, 26, plead guilty on October 8th to the daylight shooting on Alton Towers Circle in Scarborough.
A five-year-old girl was shot in the abdomen, her nine-year-old sister was shot in the leg as they played in a playground. They were rushed to Sick Kids Hospital where they underwent emergency surgery.
The girls were not the intended target.
Investigators believe Robertson became agitated after a rival belittled him on social media. They claim he and his two co-accused grabbed a gun and drove from Pickering to Scarborough to settle the score and shoot Clinton McDonald, a friend of their rival. McDonald was not injured.
The Crown was seeking a 15-year term; the defence was seeking a 10-year term.
Justice John McMahon sentenced Robertson to 13 years but gave him six months credit for time served.
Even though Robertson was on the lam for two years, Justice McMahon did take into account his early guilty plea noting the amount of strain the courts are under due to the pandemic and the precious time and resources that were saved.
Justice McMahon also took into account that Robertson has completed a life skills program while in jail and the fact he is remorseful and trying to better himself.
