Charges have been laid in connection with an October hit and run that killed a construction worker and injured a paid duty officer.
The worker was killed while cutting concrete near Midland Ave and Eglinton Ave W in mid-October.
On Friday Toronto Police arrested Jovon Henry of Pickering. He faces six charges including criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death and possession of property obtained by crime.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been probing the incident since October.
At the time, an SIU spokesman said the deadly chain of events was put into motion when a Toronto Police officer attempted to pull the driver of a white BMW over.
"That vehicle refused to stop, the officer followed," Jason Gennaro told reporters. "A short time later the vehicle struck a man."
Gennaro could not say why the officer wanted to stop the driver.
Before the SIU invoked its mandate, Toronto Police said a paid duty officer at work at a construction site had his foot run over by the fleeing driver. It is not clear if the officer was injured before or after the fatal impact.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
