It was nearly two months ago Toronto firefighters had to bust through the wall of a home to rescue a man wedged between two buildings.
Donald Lee, the retired owner of a Chinese restaurant, has been given a $12,000 repair bill that isn't covered by his fire insurance.
The 77-year-old lives on a monthly pension and says he can't afford to repair the gaping hole.
The city's insurance company, ClaimsPro, says the city nor the fire department are liable and that the cost of repairs are the responsibility of the person stuck in the crevice.
Toronto Police won't give him the name of the man who required the rescue, therefore he can't file a case in small claims court.
Jackie DeSouza, Director of Strategic Communications with the City of Toronto, says "the City was not aware that our insurance adjuster, ClaimsPro, had provided an assessment in this case. We will review this claim and the assessment from ClaimsPro as soon as possible before making a final decision on the claim."
She hopes to have reviewed the claim by the end of next week.
