A man is facing 51 charges in connection with a series of fires at an apartment complex in Scarborough over the past several months.
Toronto Police say the man ignited various items in the stairwells at 10 Glen Everest Road, in the Kingston Road and Danforth Avenue area. The frequencey of the fires increased over the past six month and police say on more than one occasion he lit the items and dropped them into the garbage chute, causing the chute and garbage to catch fire as well.
Police say as a result of the accused’s actions, a total of 88 fire trucks and 291 fire personal had been dispatched to the address over the past few months.
35-year-old Richard Joseph was arrested on May 13 around 2 a.m. in connection with the incidents.
He now faces 17 counts of arson, 17 counts of mischief, 16 counts of breaching probation and one count of common nuisance.
