Toronto Police are dealing with a shooting in the fashion district of the city overnight that left a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
The 25-year-old man was standing on the corner near King Street West and Brant just before 1 a.m., when he got into a verbal confrontation with what police allege to be three men in a car.
One of the three pulled out a gun and began shooting before the car sped off.
Speaking to NEWSTALK 1010 Saturday morning, Const. Dave Hopkinson confirmed a few shots were fired at the victim.
"A firearm was discharged at least four times at him. He was struck twice."
Police have released a video surveillance picture of the car they believe was involved, as a late model red Lexus.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Hopkinson credits the work of his fellow officers, who were in the area for regular weekend crowd control, along with EMS for tending to the victim quickly.
"In my experience, part of the reason that we don't have as many deaths in situations like this, is because we have world-class ambulance and paramedics and we're able to get to people quickly."
Given it was a Friday night, Hopkinson is hopeful there were many people in the vicinity of the shooting that may be able to step forward and help police track down the suspects.
"There are hundreds if not thousands of people that would attend that area that time of night. We're hoping that somebody that happened to be walking by taking some pictures saw what happened. Maybe somebody has dash cam video."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police ore Crime Stoppers.
