A hit and run in the downtown core has left a man fighting for his life.
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. in the area of Spadina Avenue and College street.
Toronto Police Const. Dave Hopkinson tells NEWSTALK 1010 the victim was in what is usually a safe space for pedestrians.
"These are one of the shelters for the streetcars that are located in the centre of the street. As he was standing there, an SUV mounted the curb, struck him and then fled going westbound."
The SUV is only described as black in colour.
The male victim in his 20's, was rushed to hospital with critical injuries and is listed in life-threatening condition.
Hopkinson is hopeful people that were in the area at the time of the incident, either on foot or vehicle, will be able to help out with dashcam video or smart phone pictures.
Police will also look to gain access to security video from businesses in the area, but that will take some time.
" Although surveillance equipment is on and is monitoring, we can't get access to it until we get somebody who's in charge of it."
