Mayor John Tory wants new refugees placed in shelters outside of the city, for now.
He is making the urgent request to the federal and provincial governments.
The resettlement of refugees is costing the city tens of millions of dollars.
The city has opened over 1,700 motel beds to accommodate refugee demand and has welcomed over 1,300 refugees since January of last year.
Mayor John Tory says it's time for provincial and federal governments to pony up some cash.
"Reimbursement for all costs including those incurred in 2017 and projected for 2018 in responding to the needs of refugee claimants in Toronto, including $64.5 million for direct operations."
He says Toronto is taking on the responsibility for the entire region without any funding that recognizes that.
