Not the relaxing trip down south passengers were seeking as they took off from Pearson Airport Saturday morning bound for Cancun.
Sunwing flight #511, took off at 10 a.m. but was diverted to New Orleans for reported engine problems.
The Boeing 767-300, leased from Eastern Airlines as a replacement for the fleet of 737-Max 8 planes grounded by Transport Canada, landed at Louis Armstrong International Airport without incident just after 1:30 p.m.
One passenger told our media partner CP24 they were told that low oil pressure in an engine was the cause of the mechanical problems.
Unable to accomodate the extra passengers in the main terminal, the passengers were forced into the bowels of the basement at the airport for several hours.
But at around 7:45 p.m. Saturday night, another Sunwing jet landed from Miami and picked up the stranded passengers, eventually arriving safe and sound in Cancun.
