Peel Regional Police say two men stabbed in Brampton overnight had been trying to stop what they describe as "minor property offences", including breaking into cars and theft.
It happened on Lanebrook Dr near Castlemore Rd and Goreway Dr at about 2:20 a.m. Friday.
Police believe as many as five men were carrying out small crimes in the area.
Two men confronted a suspect in the driveway of a home. The confrontation escalated and the men, aged 40 and 63, were stabbed.
The men were reportedly a father and son. The elder of the two did not survive while the younger has been released from hospital.
Acting Spt. Martin Ottaway calls the violence senseless.
"It was completely unnecessary for it to have to escalate to this point."
