Hundreds marched from Queen's Park to Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto's #MeToo rally Saturday afternoon.
Chants of "We are equal" and "Whose body? My body." were heard during the march down University avenue.
The march was sparked by the #MeToo social media hashtag. It's used to tell their personal experiences with sexual misconduct and to show other victims that they are not alone.
Organizers tell our sister station CP24 the conversation around sexual misconduct needs to continue.
Ontario’s Minister of the Status of Women Indira Naidoo-Harris was there and tells CP24 "The #MeToo campaign has started a very difficult, but very necessary conversation between all of us.”
She adds "What people are saying is ‘It’s is absolutely not acceptable for women in our province or in our country to live under the threat or fear of sexual violence.'"
Last month thousands took to the streets in Los Angeles with banners and poster denouncing sexual harassment and assault in the workplace.
