Metrolinx is repeating one hour of bus service overnight, as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end for another year.
With clocks falling back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, Metrolinx has decided to duplicate the last hour of bus service, meaning buses will operate normally as if the hour never changed, like it's "groundhog hour".
Speaking to our media partner CP24, Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins says they want to eliminate any confusion for commuters: "We have kind of a trifecta of things that are going to just maybe confuse customers. We have Halloween and we have a full moon - that always affects transit riders, don't ask me why - and we have the clock going back and what happens to all of those shift workers, that their shift starts and ends at a normal time and then the hour falls back, so they get very confused and so do we, so we actually pretend it didn't happen. We just repeat the whole hour all over again."
GO bus routes that will run an extra hour of service overnight, include:
o Route 65E (East Gwillimbury) will depart Union Station at 2:12 a.m. (EST) or 3:12 a.m. Daylight Saving Time (DST)
o Route 21A (Milton) will depart Union Station at 2:20 a.m. (EST) or 3:30 a.m. (DST)
o Route 90B (Oshawa) will depart Union Station at 2:20 a.m. (EST) or 3:20 a.m. (DST)
o Route 18C (Hamilton) will depart Union Station at 2:30 a.m. (EST) or 3:30 a.m. (DST)
o Route 31E (Georgetown) will depart Union Station at 2:31 a.m. (EST) or 3:31 a.m. (DST)
o Route 71C (Lincolnville) will depart Union Station at 2:43 a.m. (EST) or 3:43 a.m. (DST)
The adjustment will only be in effect overnight - for one night only - on Sunday, November 1st, as clocks fall back one hour for Daylight Saving Time.
