Toronto Mayor John Tory recently took a hard line stance in the battle to make the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner, toll roads.
At the Empire Club in Toronto, Tory essentially told the province, to help pay for maintenance and the re-hab of the Gardiner, if you won't allow tolls.
He claimed they were downloaded to the city years ago, and so the province should help pick up the cost.
However, NEWSTALK 1010 received a statement from the Transportation Ministry on Wednesday, who say "province has never owned or maintained the Don Valley Parkway or the elevated section of the Gardiner Expressway".
They also indicated there wouldn't be any more money flowing to Toronto any time soon.
Pointing to the recent announcement by the Premier, about the doubling of the gas tax revenue coming to this city, the ministry says it will be more money, and will come sooner, than tolls would have.
If the City was to move forward with a $2 toll per car trip, it would have generated $160 million by 2024. The gas tax will bring $170 million by 2021.
In the statement, the ministry points out, there are ways Mayor Tory can raise extra revenue - most of which mean an increase in taxes or fees.
